Eye Examinations

Information collected during the investigation will determine the appropriate course of action. In most cases this will lead to either no further action until the next eye-check or to the fun of a new pair of specs and/or contact lenses. In some cases it may lead to further medical investigation and referral to a medical practitioner, such as your GP.

Here is a breakdown of the eye exam. After identifying your needs, the eye examination has three distinct stages.

Vision tests to determine your best vision and your prescription.

Visual acuity using a letter chart.
      Retinoscopy
Using a phoroptor to determine the required distance correction
to calculate using lenses any required extra correction for near

Supplementary tests including those where eye movements are checked to consider how well your eye muscles co-ordinate and work.

      Cover test
      Motility test
      Stereotests
      Pupil Responses
      Colour vision assessment

A Volk lens is a high powered lens held close to the eye redirecting the light to view details in 3D and high resolution.
