Who can wear lenses?
In short, almost anyone. Corrections are available for myopia, hypermetropia, astigmatism and presbyopia. Some lenses will be more suitable than others and a consultation is required to assess the fitting requirements as well as lifestyle needs to be met.

What are the costs?
Contact lens Aftercare Scheme – with me, you do not pay per visit. That could easily get expensive and you may need to see us urgently if you have a problem. Experience has shown that tackling a problem earlier is always the best way. I therefore charge one annual fee to cover all consultations. Currently the annual fee is £37.50 for standard lenses and £49.50 for continuous wear lenses. If you pay by standing order, this fee is included.

Soft Contact Lenses – 90 pairs of daily lenses start at £75, with the healthiest most comfortable options costing abit more. Six months supply of monthly disposable lenses cost as low as £64 including solutions. I try to use the latest generation of breathable silicon hydrogel lenses as these have been proven to minimise changes to the cornea and surrounding area. They also help to keep the eye white around the iris. These are ideal for sports including contact sports.

Gas Permeable Lenses – an older but still acceptable method of eye correction. These lenses last longer and have fewer complications, but do require a longer initial adaptation period. A pair of lenses cost from £120. They have the advantage that the vision is frequently better than with Soft Contact Lenses.

Specialist Fittings - with the Topographer I am able to fit all styles of contact lens. This includes specialiist lenses for Keratoconus including Kerasoft and Reverse Geometry RGP. Ortho K lenses are available as well. These are to be used at night, bringing about a change in corneal shape which then allows the user to see clearly during the day without correction.

Am I too Old for lenses?
I see no upper limit to contact lens wear. In fact I have many seventy year olds that regularly wear lenses. What is more important is the tear flow of the front surfaces of the eyes and before you ask you can’t be too young either. Babies are regularly fitted in by hospital eye departments with contact lenses in conditions such as congenital cataracts.

Can a contact lens go around the back of the eye?
A straight NO. The conjunctiva is a thin membrane that stops everything including contact lenses from going around the eye.
